A large American flag is held high from a fire truck ladder above 2,977 small flags, signifying the lives lost 23 years ago on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the University of Central Missouri Quad. A lifelong Warrensburg resident, Collins graduated from Central Missouri State College in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in art education and English. Afterwards, Collins taught kindergarten through 12th grade art classes in the Warrensburg school district for 33 years until he retired in 2002.
