Joyce A. Jablonski

Our beloved Joyce A. Jablonski, 62, left this world too soon in the early morning hours of July 10, 2018.

She attended Brookfield High School and Youngstown State University in Ohio, and went on to earn a Masters in Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at the University of Texas at San Antonio. For the last 15 years, Joyce has been a rofessor of art and head of the Ceramics Department at the University of Central Missouri, while continuing to pursue her own art.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John and Neva; and her sister, Anne Marie.

She is survived by her brothers, John and Daniel; her sisters, Patricia and Pamela; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and students.

These are only a few of the facts about Joyce, but she was so much more. Joyce was more than just a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a teacher and a great artist. Joyce was a phenomenon. She was loved and respected by all who were privileged to know her. When Joyce walked into a room, even strangers took notice! Everyone seemed to feel the rush of electricity and happiness that entered with her. Someone special had entered the room! Joyce seemed to have a magical effect on everyone. Strangers immediately felt that they were reconnecting with an old friend.

As an artist and a teacher, there was none better. Usually, the roots of an artist can be traced back to some other artist or style. Joyce’s artwork reflected her unique essence. It came directly from her soul and personality. There may be some Jablonski imitators out there, but without the uniqueness and inner spirit that says Jablonski. That, no one can copy. A dedicated teacher, Joyce strongly encouraged her students to find their artistic selves. More than that she took them to museums and other artist’s studios to emphasize the importance of self-awareness and uniqueness of self.

Joyce’s short life leaves too many people bereft and begging for more. The emptiness she leaves simply cannot be filled, but her family and her dearest friends, and so many others will carry her love and spirit forever into the future.

The family has scheduled a celebration of life for Joyce to be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Knuckleheads in Kansas City, Mo.

Family requests contributions in her honor to be forwarded to The Joyce Jablonski Artists Memorial Fund in care of First National Bank, P.O. box 49, Brookfield. OH 44403.
