Warrensburg Parks & Recreation will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hawthorne Park Sensory Garden Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Park, 815 Hawthorne Boulevard.
The project will create a new inclusive park amenity designed to improve accessibility and provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors of varying ages and abilities. Planned improvements include site preparation, grading, erosion control, tree protection, concrete and colored-concrete trail construction, handrails, turf establishment, and sensory and inclusive play features.
McClure Engineering Co. provided engineering support and assisted the City with the project’s plans, specifications, and bid-review process. Tenoch Construction, Inc. was selected as the contractor responsible for constructing the trail and associated site improvements.
The Hawthorne Park Sensory Garden Trail is a collaborative effort involving the City of Warrensburg, Warrensburg Parks & Recreation, Johnson County Board of Services, the 21st Century Parks Foundation, West Central Electric Foundation, McClure, Tenoch Construction, and other community partners and donors.
The Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce is assisting Warrensburg Parks & Recreation with the coordination and setup of the groundbreaking ceremony. Members of the public, project partners, community leaders, and members of the media are invited to attend and help celebrate the beginning of the project.
“We are excited to begin construction on a project that will make Hawthorne Park more inclusive and welcoming for people of all ages and abilities,” said Tony Albertina, Assistant Director of Warrensburg Parks & Recreation. “This project would not be possible without the support of our partner organizations, donors, and community members. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate this important milestone.”
