The Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Board received positive community news during its meeting on May 27, including the appointment of a new board member and grant funding support for the Hawthorne Park Sensory Garden Trail project.

The Park Board officially welcomed its newest member, Will Matson. Board members and staff expressed appreciation for Matson's willingness to serve the community and support the continued growth and development of Warrensburg's parks, programs, and recreational facilities.

The Board also recognized a generous contribution from the 21st Century Parks Foundation. Hannah Clark presented Warrensburg Parks and Recreation with a $2,000 grant to support construction of the Hawthorne Park Sensory Garden Trail at Hawthorne Park.

The Sensory Garden Trail is designed to provide an inclusive outdoor recreation experience that encourages exploration, sensory engagement, and accessibility for individuals of all ages and abilities. The project is a collaborative effort between Warrensburg Parks and Recreation, the Johnson County Board of Services, community partners, and donors who share a vision of creating a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

"We are grateful for the continued support of the 21st Century Parks Foundation and all of the partners who are helping bring this project to life," said Chris Deal, Director of Warrensburg Parks and Recreation. "The Hawthorne Park Sensory Garden Trail represents our commitment to creating recreational opportunities that are accessible and inclusive for all members of our community."

Deal also welcomed Matson's addition to the Park Board.

"Strong leadership and community involvement are essential to the success of our parks system," said Deal. "We are excited to welcome Will to the Board and look forward to his contributions as we continue enhancing parks and recreation opportunities throughout Warrensburg."
