Warrensburg, Holden entries accepted for Kansas Relays

Track and field athletes from Warrensburg and Holden will take part in the 100th Anniversary of the Kansas Relays.

A combined 10 events from both schools were accepted into the event. It marks the first running of the Kansas Relays since 2019. High school events run Friday, April 14, through Saturday, April 15, at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.

Warrensburg senior Grace Hill made the cut for four events. Her individual qualifications include the long jump and 100-meter hurdles. She also reached in the 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter relay.

Both relay units are made up of senior Kira Wyatt, senior Jaida Wyatt, sophomore Erika Bloom and Hill.

Boys qualifications include sophomore Ty Carman in the 400-meter dash and senior Owen Hall in the long jump.

Junior Masyn Powell highlighted Holden individuals to qualify for the event, doing so in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Sophomore Kia Harmon qualified in the high jump.

Holden’s 4x400 meter relay of freshman Adalyn Campbell, senior Alli Iles, senior Marah Klover and senior Gracie Carver also made the cut.

The high school meet runs concurrently with the college meet. Gabby Hoke, a graduate of Warrensburg High School and sophomore at the University of Kansas, will participate in the women’s pole vault.

Preliminary races will take place Friday, with finals taking place Saturday. Heat winners, plus the next fastest times, make finals. Each finals race features nine participants.

Girls high jump and women’s pole vault takes place Friday while boys and girls long jump takes place Saturday.

The top nine individuals, and the top three relays, receive medals. Live stats for both days of the relays will be available at pttiming.com.
