Veterans Assistance League hosts two fall events to benefit veterans

Posted

WARRENSBURG — The Veterans Assistance League will host its second Virtual Run for Freedom 5K and 10K this fall.

Runners from all over the state and country will have the opportunity to run for the veterans who live at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

Runners may choose to run a 5K or 10K between Sept. 25 and Oct. 31. Upon registration, they will receive a link on where they may document their time.

On Veterans Day (Nov. 11), the veterans will give videos of thanks to the runners on the Missouri Veterans Home-Warrensburg’s Facebook page.

Runners who register by Sept. 10 will receive a T-shirt and personalized dog tag. They may register at register.chronotrack.com/r/60433.

The cost is $30. Runners who don’t want a T-shirt may continue to register until Sept. 25.

The Veterans Home invites the runners participating to email pictures of them getting ready, running or their dramatic finishes to Latisha.Koetting@mvc.dps.mo.gov to include in the awards presentation.

In addition, the Veterans Assistance League is hosting its first Freedom Photo Scavenger Hunt this fall.

Every day in the month of October, a different task will be posted on the Missouri Veteran Home’s Facebook page. The participant will need to take a photo of that task and submit it to get credit.

For every task completed, their name will be placed into a drawing for prizes. The maximum number of tickets any one participant can receive is 31.

Every task will focus on veterans and will demonstrate support for them. Cities like Warrensburg, Columbia, Concordia, Kansas City, Marshall and Sedalia will be part of the hunt.

The cost is $25 for children and $30 for adults. To receive a T-shirt, registration is due by Sept. 10 at 2021valscavengerhunt.eventbrite.com.

Businesses, organizations and individuals are invited to be a sponsor of these events. They will be listed on the back of both event shirts and can be one of the 31 scavenger hunt sites.

The Veterans Assistance League states sponsorships will allow the organization to purchase T-shirts for all of its veterans and continue quality of life programs that are vital to the veterans and their morale right now.

The deadline is Sept. 7. Checks can be made payable to the Veterans Assistance League and sent to Latisha Koetting at the Missouri Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg.

For more information, call Koetting, supervisor of volunteer services, at 660-429-4661.
