The MIAA announced its intent to use a weighted index for all fall 2021 sports standings Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The association’s athletic administrators committee unanimously approved the index in anticipation of potential COVID-19 disruptions to 2021 MIAA fall sports seasons.
The index, originally created for the 2020-21 basketball season, is calculated by 80% of the team’s winning percentage and 20% of the team’s total number of contests played.
In order to be eligible for a regular season championship and MIAA postseason play, team’s must compete at least 50% of their scheduled contests.
The MIAA Office will apply the weighted index formula to the standings each weekend, with results of the formula being updated every monday.
