Local law enforcement is investigating a homicide in Johnson County.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9 on its Facebook page that it was conducting an active homicide investigation in the 200 block of South Highway 13 in Warrensburg. The sheriff’s office was being assisted by the Warrensburg Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to a Johnson County EMA alert issued at 2:55 p.m., residents were advised to avoid the area around Southwest Highway BB and Southwest Highway Business 13 due to “officers in the area for a high priority incident.” The Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, which was issued just before 4 p.m., stated there was a “significant police presence in the area.”

Law enforcement is asking anyone with information related to the investigation to come forward. Anyone who has seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious is strongly encouraged to contact Central Dispatch at 660-747-5511. The sheriff’s office said that “assistance could be crucial to the advancement of our investigation.”

“The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available and it is appropriate to do so,” the post states. “We thank the public for their cooperation and understanding during this time.”
