Filing opens for April municipal election

JOHNSON COUNTY — Filing for county, municipal and school board elected positions opened Tuesday, Dec. 5, and will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26 for the Municipal Election, scheduled for April 2.

Operating hours will vary by filing location and school districts will be closed for winter break.

City of Warrensburg

There is one seat available on the Warrensburg City Council for the April 2 Municipal Election. Council member Tarl Bentley’s seat expires in April. No one has yet filed.

Warrensburg School District

Two seats are available on the Board of Education. Tom McCormack and Shannon Bridgmon’s terms are expiring. McCormack and Betsy Kreisel have filed.

Johnson County Ambulance District

Two seats are available on the Johnson County Ambulance District Board of Directors for Sub-Districts 1 and 4, as Michael Wakeman and Juanita Moore’s terms are expiring. Moore has filed. Terms are for three years.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Western Missouri Medical Center

One candidate, Greg Hassler, has filed and is up for reelection after being appointed to fill a vacancy earlier this year when Sue Hook stepped down.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Johnson County Emergency Services Board

Darlene Buckstead has filed for the Johnson County Emergency Services Board.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Johnson County Fire Protection District #2

A six-year term is available as board member PD Duncan’s seat is expiring. No one has filed.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

City of Chilhowee

Mayor Lois Morrison and Deborah S. Hufford have filed for candidacy in the April election.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Chilhowee School District

Timothy Miller and Dan Malott’s terms on the Board of Education are expiring. Malott has filed.

City of Centerview

The Star-Journal did not receive a candidate filing update by press time.

Candidates should file at the Johnson County Courthouse.

Crest Ridge School District

The Board of Education has two terms up for election in April, with the terms of Drew Shanks and Katie Williams expiring. No candidates have filed yet.

Candidates should file at the District Office, 92 NW Highway 58 in Centerview.

City of Kingsville

The City of Kingsville did not respond by press time.

Candidates should file at the Kingsville City Hall, 103 N. Olive St. in Kingsville.

Kingsville School District

The Board of Education has two three-year terms and one one-year term up for election in April. Ed Barnett and Daniel Mitstifer, both three-year terms, and Jill Scrutchfield, a one-year term, are up for reelection in April.

Candidates should file with the District Office, 101 E. Adriatic St. in Kingsville.

City of Leeton

The City of Leeton has two two-year Alderman at Large terms expiring in April. Barry Uptegrove and Russ Norris’ terms are expiring. No candidates have filed as of Dec. 11.

Candidates should file at Leeton City Hall, 108 W. Summerfield Ave. in Leeton.

Leeton School District

The Board of Education has two terms expiring, Michael (Robby) Myers and Melissa Myers. Michael (Robby) Myers is the only candidate to file so far.

Candidates should file at the District Office, 500 N. Main St. in Leeton.

City of Holden

The City of Holden has four two-year terms and two one-year terms up for the April election. Julie Getz, Carol Mallory, and Allen Mensch have all filed for reelection for a two-year term. Larry Miller's term will expire in April, but has not yet filed for reelection. Morgan Pemberton, Jack Leary, and Richard Pearson have all also filed for candidacy.

Candidates should file at Holden City Hall, 101 W. Third St. in Holden.

Holden School District

The Board of Education has two three-year terms expiring in April. The terms of Georgia Jarman and Bobby Zimmer are expiring, with only incumbent Jarman filing for reelection so far.

Candidates should file at the district office, 1612 S. Main St. in Holden.

City of Knob Noster

The City Council has three two-year term Alderman positions available in each of its districts (1, 2, and 3). Aldermen Perry Byerly, Jesse Stauffer-Baum, and Tom Brent’s terms all expire in April. No candidates have been certified and will not be eligible until Dec. 26.

Candidates should file at the City of Knob Noster City Clerk’s office, 201 N. State St. in Knob Noster.

Knob Noster School District

The Board of Education has two three-year terms expiring in April. Vice President Paul “Hillsy” Hills and member Casey Cunningham’s terms will each expire, with Hills being the only candidate filing as of Dec. 11.

Candidates should file at the Knob Noster Public Schools District Office, 401 E. Wimer St. in Knob Noster.
