Charles H. Higgins

Charles Higgins, 81, Kansas City, passed away July 26, 2014, at the Life Care Center of Grandview.

Charles was born May 5, 1933, in Johnson County, Mo., to Jewell and Effie Higgins.

Charles has four children, Charles Higgins Jr., Craig Higgins and wife, Eurnice, Cathi Cahill and Chris Higgins and wife, Tina; two stepchildren, Cheryl Zeller and husband, Phil, and Richard Easterday; one sister, Hazel Westerhold and husband, Russell; three sisters-in-law, Fern McMullin, Betty Broughton and Charlene Broughton; three aunts, Dorothy Moore, Mary Ruth Salisbury and Reba Higgins; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a master sergeant. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service and worked for General Motors.

Charles and Gladean were married in 1976. They both loved to travel and visited 66 countries and some more than once. Charles also loved playing Mexican train and cards with family and friends. Charles was a member of the Gashland Baptist Church of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladean; his parents; two sisters, Joanna Gilman and Violet Skidmore.

He will be missed by all of his friends and family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the First Baptist Church of Higginsville.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army. Condolences may be expressed at www.souderfunerals.com
