In the ancient rendering of time known as the Christian Church Year, the span of weeks between Jan. 6 (which signals the end of the 12 Days of Christmas) and Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday, known by many as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras—Feb. 21 this year) is called Epiphany, a word meaning “to make known or show forth.”
