On Sunday, Aug. 1, the Western Missouri Medical Center Auxiliary hosted the 12th annual Ice Cream Social and welcomed 222 attendees.
“We are so grateful for the generous support we receive from our members and community. It was a good turnout for our 12th annual Ice Cream Social,” Carol Dunham, Ice Cream Social co-chair, said. “Thanks to the help of over 30 volunteers who went above and beyond to set up, serve, clean up, and the many more Auxiliary members who provided an abundance of delicious desserts. After the event, desserts were taken to all of the nursing units and other departments working on Sunday at WMMC. In addition, desserts were delivered to all of Warrensburg’s First Responders including ambulance, dispatch, fire and police.”
Members of the Auxiliary, WMMC Board of Trustees and staff volunteered to serve ice cream to raise funds to purchase two Nora pro steamers at a total cost of $3,145.72 for the Environmental Services Department (EVS). The equipment helps ensure sanitary, deep-cleaned floors, thanks to the improved infection control that steam offers.
This year’s Ice Cream Social, hosted in WMMC’s Courtyard Café and Main Lobby, raised more than $4,300 with donations still coming in. After purchasing the two steamers and covering expenses, the Auxiliary netted more than $1,100.
“Members of the Auxiliary baked a wide variety of tasty treats for the event, including pies, cobblers, cakes, cookies and brownies. Over 21 gallons of vanilla and chocolate ice cream were the main features — covered in the essential toppings of chocolate syrup, chopped nuts, whipped cream and cherries,” Pat Higgins, Ice Cream Social co-chair, said. “We want to thank Warrensburg DQ Grill & Chill for graciously donating the strawberry topping again this year and Morrison Healthcare for donating the ice cream and other toppings.”
Donations are still being accepted and may be sent to the WMMC Auxiliary, 403 Burkarth Road, Warrensburg.
