The National Weather Service has placed Johnson County under a Winter Storm Warning, effective from midnight through 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The NWS forecasts 4 to 6 inches of snow to fall across the region. Along with snow, a northeast wind of around 10 miles per hour and wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour are expected.

The high for Wednesday is expected to be near 30 degrees Farenheit, with a low of around 7 degrees Farenehiet. Wind chill values could be between -4 degrees Fahrenheit and 1 degree Fahrenheit.

With the storm, the City of Warrensburg has announced Phase I of its snow emergency starts at 9 p.m. Tuesday and runs through 7 a.m. Thursday. Avoid parking along snow routes and cul-de-sacks.

Property owners are reminded that sidewalks should be cleared.

The Winter Storm warning expands along I-70 from eastern Kansas into north central and northeastern Missouri. Pettis, Lafayette, Henry and Jackson Counties are also impacted.

The National Weather Service reminds drivers that travel will be difficult, and some rounds may not be passable.

The storm has led to several cancellations. Warrensburg, Knob Noster, Chilhowee, Kingsville and Leeton will have an AMI day Wednesday. Holden and Crest Ridge will have snow days.

The University of Central Missouri campus will be closed Wednesday. Online classes are not included in this closure.
