Posted

WARRENSBURG — The Warrensburg Police Department has confirmed that as of the evening of Monday, Jan. 24, the Warrensburg High School campus has been cleared after a bomb threat was found written on a bathroom wall inside the building.

“Late this morning, the district was notified of a threat written on a bathroom wall at Warrensburg High School,” Superintendent Andy Kohl said in an email to parents. “Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement recommended the evacuation of WHS students and staff. Law enforcement agencies arrived on-site to begin the process of securing the campus. Parents/guardians of WHS students were notified of the situation, with updates provided throughout the day.”

After the threat was found, district administration made the decision to evacuate students to the First Baptist Church.

The WPD coordinated with Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Whiteman Air Force Base and a bomb squad to clear the building and grounds at the high school campus.

The WPD reports the campus is clear to resume classes as of Tuesday, Jan. 25.

“The safety of our students is our top priority, and in the coming days, the administration will be further investigating today's threat,” Kohl said in the email. “Parents, we ask that you please impress upon your student(s) the serious repercussions of a threat such as this and the importance of telling an adult if a student makes a threat.”

Original story

Warrensburg High School evacuated Monday, Jan. 24, shortly after it was reported that a bomb threat had been written on a bathroom wall in the building.

Assistant Superintendent John Finnane said Principal Bret Pummill acted quickly and contacted the Central Office and law enforcement.

“(Pummill) then worked through the process of taking the information and advice from law enforcement which was to evacuate the building,” Finnane said. “We coordinate the evacuation effort, mobilized the buses, brought them (the buses) in, brought students to the off-site area and then we also notified families (about) what was going on.”

The Warrensburg Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Whiteman Air Force Base Bomb Squad worked to sweep the building.

“They came in with their dogs to be able to sweep the building, the parking lot to ensure that it was safe,” Finnane said.

As of press time, it is unknown who wrote the bomb threat.
