WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE — Whiteman Air Force Base hosted a memorial ceremony on the base Sept. 10 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

The ceremony was open to those with base access, including family members and retired military veterans.

The ceremony consisted of a salute, a memorial wreath laying and a fife and drum performance.

The base states that within less than a month after the 2001 attacks, B-2 Spirit stealth bombers from WAFB delivered the nation’s initial response to the terrorist attacks directly from home station in Missouri and initiated the first airstrikes during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
