KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Warrensburg man has been charged in connection to a shooting last week at Kansas City International Airport.

Kevin Bloom, 40, has been charged in Platte County with third-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Online court records state Bloom was issued a $50,000 cash-only bond and remains in custody at the Platte County Jail. A hearing took place Tuesday, Dec. 20 in Platte County Circuit Court, where he entered a not guilty plea. Another hearing is scheduled for Jan. 3.

According to KSHB, the shooting occurred around 4:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16 after police spotted a suspicious vehicle near KCI. According to Fox4, court documents state that a KCI officer saw a truck with no license plates leaving an airport parking lot. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the two suspects inside, Bloom and Lacy Perry, refused to stop. Fox4 states a chase ensued, including Bloom allegedly driving through secured gates and ramming a KCI officer’s vehicle, and it ended when the vehicle crashed into a light pole near Bern Street and Cookingham Drive.

KSHB states a KCI officer assisted law enforcement during the shooting and helped arrest the two suspects. The officer was shot in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Fox4 reports the gunshot happened during a struggle between the officer and Perry after the female suspect had slipped out of her handcuffs and began driving a patrol vehicle in an attempt to flee.

According to KSHB, Bloom is the second person charged in the shooting. Perry, of Independence, was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and disarming a peace officer. She was also issued a $50,000 cash-only bond.
