Posted

Although the calendar may indicate it’s spring, this week could bring some winter weather to west central Missouri.

A Freeze Watch has been issued until 10 a.m. Wednesday for Johnson County.

According to the National Weather Service, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 are possible from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning in portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central, north central, northeast, northwest and west central Missouri.

Information from the NWS states frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. The NWS advises taking steps now to protect plants from the cold and preparing water pipes to prevent them from freezing.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for 10 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday for Johnson County. Plan on slushy and slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute.

Rain is likely Monday night, possibly mixed with snow before 3 a.m. Rain is likely between 3 and 5 a.m., possibly mixed with snow and sleet after 5 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

On Tuesday, rain mixed with snow is possible before 1 p.m. followed by a chance of rain. The chance of precipitation is 90%. Snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. The high will be near 43 with a low around 28.
