UCM students presented with Hawksley Artist Awards

Posted

WARRENSBURG — Mid-Missouri Artists, Inc. presented the annual MMA Dorothy Hawksley Emerging Artist Awards to four University of Central Missouri art and design majors, based on the annual Citation Awards Exhibit.

The 2021 recipients of the MMA Dorothy Hawksley Emerging Artist Awards are: McKayla Jameson, Ebony Johnson, Jake Martin and Alicia Hoerman.

Awards were presented virtually.

The award consists of a monetary amount and a certificate of recognition.

The MMA Scholarship Selection Committee selects scholarship recipients based on works presented by students in the annual Citation Awards Show and recognizes students who exhibit both a level of mastery in the media used and the potential as emerging artists.

MMA awards are presented in memory of Dorothy Hawksley and other MMA members.

Hawksley, who initiated starting the scholarship prior to her death, spent much of her life doing things for others and supporting organizations that helped others. She loved the arts—theater, dance, music, and painting.

Dorothy painted at home for her own pleasure and was thrilled when she won the “Best of Show” award in the Mid-Missouri Artists Spring Fine Arts Show for her painting, “Migraine.”

The fund continues to grow with donations in memory of deceased MMA members.

With this 17th  year of scholarship awards, MMA has awarded $11,700 to 48 students.
