WARRENSBURG — The Warrensburg Schools Foundation announced Friday, Aug. 20, the 2021-22 Classroom Impact Grant recipients.

Foundation President Bob Lotspeich awarded a total of $10,089 to four Warrensburg School District teachers in a livestream during the annual All-District Breakfast for the teachers and staff.

“Every year, one of the most exciting things our foundation is able to do is award Classroom Impact Grants,” Lotspeich said. “What our teachers have been able to accomplish this last year is unprecedented. For this, we would like to thank them for the tremendous impact they have had on their students and in our community.”

Each grant was delivered to its recipient by a member of the Foundation’s board directly following the announcement.

The four grants awarded:

The David and Teresa Pearce Classroom Impact Grant, Programming with Romi, was awarded to Brian Holmgren from Warrensburg High School. This project will provide 12 Romi robots for students to learn basic Java programming and more specifically, how to write Java code to control the robot. Students will learn how to program and use motor encoders, distance, sensors, reflectance sensors, internal measurement units, and servos to solve challenges.

The Meryl Lin McKean Classroom Impact Grant, Reading is a Treat, was awarded to Kristen Shaw from Martin Warren Elementary. This project will expand home literacy among students by converting the unused trophy case next to the gym into a book vending machine. Students will have an opportunity to use earned school dollars to purchase the books, which will be theirs to take home and begin their own home library.

The Mike and Jan Powers Classroom Impact Grant, Uke Can Do It, was awarded to Keaton Denney from Warrensburg Middle School. This project will provide 35 Everjoys Soprano Ukulele Beginner Packs and wall mounts. Students will have an opportunity to learn music literacy, history, care for the instrument and skills involved with playing the ukulele.

The Larry and Kelly Landwehr Classroom Impact Grant, Drumming Up Fitness, was awarded to Karla Hinnah and Amy Weldon from Sterling Elementary. This project will provide high quality DrumFIT equipment for 30 participants and a three-year curriculum license. A coordinated effort in the music and PE classrooms, DrumFit provides an experience of challenge and fun where there is more time for social experiences and development.

The Foundation awards grants directly to classrooms to positively impact the achievement of students and reward innovation in instruction.

The Warrensburg Schools Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that provides financial
