WARRENSBURG — The Star-Journal has welcomed a news intern for the summer.

Grace Fugate will be spending the summer months working in the Star-Journal newsroom as she learns more about community journalism.

“I’m excited for the third year of our internship program at the Star-Journal, and especially that we get to host another student from the University of Central Missouri,” Editor Nicole Cooke said. “I’m looking forward to working with Grace as she helps our newsroom provide more community content for readers.”

Fugate is helping with community news coverage this summer, writing articles on a variety of topics for the Star-Journal’s print editions and website. She is from Wentzville and is a student at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where she is majoring in communication studies with a minor in digital media production. She will become a UCM graduate after the completion of her internship.

Fugate has experience with video production, graphic design, and audio production. She also served as the Vice President of Membership for Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity, where she helped to plan recruitment events, lead the homecoming committee, and develop a larger presence on campus. She plans to pursue a career in marketing, print media or broadcast media.

“I am excited to put the tools and experience I’ve learned through my college years to work,” Fugate said. “It’s been rewarding to connect with people in the community and to be able to continue improving my journalism abilities.”
