Star-Journal welcomes summer news intern

Posted

WARRENSBURG — The Star-Journal has welcomed a news intern for the summer.

Olivia Gibbs will be spending the summer months working in the Star-Journal newsroom as she learns more about community journalism.

“As we continue to make improvements to the Star-Journal, I’m excited to bring back an internship program to our newsroom,” Editor Nicole Cooke said. “I’m also happy to be partnering with my alma mater, the University of Central Missouri, to help make that happen. I look forward to teaching Olivia more about local journalism while also learning from her, all while providing some extra content for our readers.”

Gibbs is helping with community news coverage this summer, writing articles on a variety of topics for the Star-Journal’s print editions and website. She is from St. Charles and is a student at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg where she studies digital media production. She plans to pursue a career as a journalist with hopes to eventually become a screenwriter.

“I’m looking forward to gaining experience as a reporter, learning from everyone at the Star-Journal, and getting to know more about the Warrensburg community,” Gibbs said.
