Q&A: Changes coming to the Star-Advertiser

Posted

The Star-Advertiser, which is mailed to households throughout Johnson County every Wednesday, is undergoing some changes this month to provide a better product for both our advertisers and our readers.

Those who receive the Star-Advertiser by mail will now receive it every other week as the circulation has been split into Group A and Group B. Group A will receive it the first week, then Group B will receive it the next week, and the pattern continues. The Star-Advertiser will now be larger each week with more ads from neighboring communities. And, we have increased the number of retail partners who carry the Star-Advertiser. These changes are effective Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Despite the changes, the Star-Advertiser will remain a free product for our customers and will continue to be full of great ads and coupons from area businesses.

Below are some questions and answers regarding the changes:

Why are you changing the frequency of delivery?

While it may sound backward, changing to alternating weeks for customers allows us to target a larger audience. If we targeted this many people every week, it would not be financially feasible, so we are alternating to make sure we reach as many customers as possible.

How can I read the Star-Advertiser when it’s not my week to receive it?

Readers will definitely still have the opportunity to read the Star-Advertiser each week. On the weeks you don’t find one in your mailbox, you can pick one up for free at more than 30 area vendors such as gas stations and grocery stores. Copies are also available at the Star-Journal office, 101 E. Market St. Suite D.

I’m an advertiser — how will this change benefit me?

Advertisers will benefit in two ways. First, by alternating weeks to target a larger audience, more Johnson County residents will be seeing your advertisement than before. Second, the Star-Advertiser will now feature all of the ads from the Plainsman, a product of the Star-Journal’s parent company, the Sedalia Democrat. That means the Plainsman will also feature all of the Star-Advertiser’s ads. The Plainsman reaches readers throughout Pettis County and as far as Versailles, Windsor and Warsaw. This allows our advertisers to reach an entirely new audience they weren’t reaching previously.

I’m a reader — how will this change benefit me?

As we mentioned above, the Star-Advertiser will now feature even more ads than before. Previously, the Star-Journal was typically only four pages. Now it will average at least eight pages every week, meaning more ads and coupons for our readers.

What if I’m not receiving the Star-Advertiser but I would like to?

Please call our office at 660-747-8123 to talk with a customer service representative to see if it is possible to have the Star-Advertiser mailed to you.

What if I’m receiving the Star-Advertiser but I don’t want it?

Due to the process of total market saturation with the United States Postal Service, we unfortunately can’t remove specific households from the mailing list. If we made the Star-Advertiser a subscription-based product, we would have to charge a fee and we want to keep this a free product for the community.

I have more questions. Who can I talk to?

You can contact the Star-Journal at 660-747-8123, circulation@warrensburgstarjournal.com or by visiting our office at 101 E. Market St. Suite D.
