Mules trio earns spoon ABCA All-Central Region Defensive Team


Three members of the MIAA Regular Season and NCAA-II Central Region Champion Central Missouri Mules baseball team earned a spot on the 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Central Region Defensive Team, it was announced Thursday, June 20.

Brennen van Breusegen (outfield), Cole Moore (second base) and Chase Heath (catcher) all earned spots on the team.

A redshirt senior from Columbia, Ill., van Breusegen posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with zero errors in 131 chances as the starting centerfielder for UCM in 2024 in 61 games. In addition, he compiled 127 putouts and four assists.

Moore, a redshirt senior from Shawnee, Kan., was played in 56 games with 54 starts in 2024, posting a .966 fielding percentage with only three errors out of 217 chances at second base. He added 119 assists and 95 putouts, and helped Central Missouri turn 28 double plays.

Heath, a junior from O'Fallon, Mo., saw action in 54 contests with 40 starts behind the plate this season. He compiled a .995 fielding percentage with just two errors out of a team-high 381 chances to go along with a team-best 347 putouts. In addition, he had 32 assists and threw out 14 runners attempting to steal in 2024.

The ABCA NCAA Division II Region All-Defensive teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
