MSHP reports moderate, serious injuries in head-on collision, vehicle fire

Serious and moderate injuries have been reported from a two-vehicle wreck Thursday, Jan. 21, at Highway 13 and 700 Road. 

The Johnson County Fire Protection District responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision turned vehicle fire, arriving on scene at 8:50 p.m. 

JCFPD Chief Larry Jennings said the fire was under control by 8:57 p.m. and crews left the scene by 9:55 p.m. 

Jennings said one vehicle burned and the second sustained some exterior damage from exposure to the fire. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the wreck occurred when a Dodge Durango, driven by Justin Bunting, 37, of Warrensburg, was southbound passing vehicles on Highway 13 and struck a 2001 Ford, driven by Derrick G. Krieger, 52, of Higginsville, head on. 

Bunting is reported to have serious injuries and was transported by Johnson County Ambulance District to Centerpoint Medical Center. 

Krieger is reported to have moderate injuries and was transported by JCAD to Western Missouri Medical Center. 

Both vehicles are reported as totaled.
