A Winter Weather Advisory is slated to go into effect at 5 p.m. Jan. 9, for Johnson County.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, the alert will run until 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10.
Mixed precipitation with one to two inches of snow expected.
The alert comes as the region continues to thaw out from the Winter Storm Warning that brought approximately 6 inches of snow to Warrensburg on Sunday, Jan. 5 into Monday, Jan. 6.
All area school districts still remain out of school on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The forecasted high for Thursday is 34 degrees, with a low of 25. A southwest wind of 7 to 13 mph is expected, with gusts as high as 23 mph
The snow is expected to arrive between before 8 p.m., with patchy fog and freezing rain also anticipated between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Just snow is expected after 10 p.m.
Precipitation will end by Friday morning. Friday’s high is expected to be near 30, with a north wind of 6 to 8 mph.
Johnson County is on the northern most counties that has a winter weather watch.
The advisory runs down into the Arkansas border, before transitioning into a winter storm warning.
The system is expected to span down into Texas, where the most significant snowfall is expected.
There is no further precipitation expected after Thursday night.
