Knob Noster baseball names new head coach

KNOB NOSTER - Bill Bivins is named the new head coach of the Knob Noster baseball program.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to become the head coach of the Panther baseball team,” Bivins said. “Having been part of it for the past eight years as an assistant and now being able to continue building this program is an honor that I don’t take lightly.”

Bivins replaces Mark Carey, who served as the baseball coach for the past eight years and was named the new athletic director for Knob Noster High School in early May.

"I could not be happier to have Bill Bivins to carry on the tradition as the head baseball coach at Knob Noster High School,” Carey said. “Coach Bivins has strong roots in the youth community as he was president of the KNYSA from 2008-2013 ( Knob Noster Youth Sports Program). Coach Bivins will continue to be an asset to these young athletes as he takes over the baseball program at the high school.”

Carey said he enjoyed having Bivins on his staff for the past eight years.

“Coach Bivins has been right by my side,” Carey said. “He will be carrying on the tradition that we have built together, making it a stronger program as he brings many new strengths and ideas to the table.”

Before coaching in Knob Noster, Bivins coached youth teams from 1996 to 1999 in North Dakota and from 1999 to 2002 in Virginia.

“I thoroughly enjoy coaching and mentoring,” Bivins said. “I always connect with our players and that is what keeps me coming back. I was going to retire from coaching back in 2017 when my son graduated high school and each year a new freshman class comes in and I get attached and commit to seeing them through their senior year.”

Carey and Bivins took the 2017 team to the State Final Four.

“One of my favorite memories coaching was taking our 2017 team to the state tournament and winning fourth place,” Bivins said. “There were games along the way that we shouldn’t have won, but our coaching staff had full confidence in our team and our team believed they could win because they had faith in the coaching staff. That’s what makes coaching exciting, building trust in each other and watching success unfold as each game is played out.”

Carey said he is excited to see what Bivins and the program will achieve moving forward.

“Having coached with Coach Carey for the past eight years has set me up for success in this new role,” Bivins said. “I’m inheriting a program that is solid and doesn’t need to be rebuilt."
