JCCHS reports 6,902 total COVID-19 cases

JOHNSON COUNTY — Johnson County Community Health Services has released information in relation to the age and location of the confirmed positive cases of coronavirus in Johnson County as of Friday, Oct. 1.

According to the local COVID-19 dashboard, the county's death count is currently at 69.

JCCHS states that of the 6,902 confirmed positive cases in the county, 6,704 cases are considered recovered while 198 are still active. The case count is an increase of 141 cases since Friday, Sept. 24. 

One hundred and sixty-one cases have been considered recovered since Sept. 24. To be considered recovered, the Johnson County Task Force states a person who has tested positive must be seven days post-onset of symptoms and 72 hours fever free without the use of fever-reducing medication.

JCCHS stated the total number of administered tests as of Oct. 1 were 50,161 PCR tests and 49,782 antigen tests.

The seven-day positivity rate for the county is 12.4% for PCR tests. 

The state’s COVID-19 dashboard states 28.4% of Johnson County is fully vaccinated, 17,276 residents have received their first dose and 15,363 residents have completed their vaccine.

Of the 6,902 total cases reported by JCCHS, 3,936 came from Warrensburg for a total of 57% of the total cases. Of the positive cases, 3,175 were PCR tests and 761 were antigen tests.

JCCHS states that 3,848, 97.8%, of the cases reported in Warrensburg were recovered while 88 were still active.

Of the remaining cases in the county, JCCHS states there were:

  • 948 total cases (13.7% of cases in the county; 759 positives from PCR tests and 189 positives from antigen tests) reported in communities in the county with a population of 2,500 people or less, 901 were recovered (95% in that category) while 47 were still active;
  • 761 total cases (11% of cases in the county; 624 positives from PCR tests and 137 positives from antigen tests) reported in Knob Noster, 744 were recovered (97.8% of cases in Knob Noster) while 17 were still active;
  • 853 total cases (12.4% of cases in the county; 611 positives from PCR tests and 242 positives from antigen tests) reported in Holden, 818 were recovered (95.9% of cases in Holden) while 35 were still active; 
  • 404 total cases (5.9% of cases in the county; 323 positives from PCR tests and 81 positives from antigen tests) reported in Kingsville, 393 were recovered (97.3% of cases in Kingsville) while 11 were still active.

JCCHS also broke down the number of cases by age group.

As of Oct. 1, of the 6,902 cases in the county, 1,179 of those cases had been reported from those ages 20 to 24. The age group with the second most reported cases was the age group of 10 to 19 with 998 cases.

Case numbers for all age groups include:

  • 290 from the age group of 0 to 9;
  • 998 from the age group of 10 to 19;
  • 1,179 from the age group of 20 to 24;
  • 568 from the age group of 25 to 29;
  • 487 from the age group of 30 to 34;
  • 510 from the age group of 35 to 39;
  • 470 from the age group of 40 to 44;
  • 390 from the age group of 45 to 49; 
  • 407 from the age group of 50 to 54;
  • 417 from the age group of 55 to 59;
  • 329 from the age group of 60 to 64;
  • 247 from the age group of 65 to 69;
  • 181 from the age group of 70 to 74;
  • 161 from the age group of 75 to 79; and
  • 268 from the age group of 80 years of age and older.
