Contribute to summer sports coverage

Posted

A little under seven months ago, I thought I was in over my head.

Going from a part-time sports reporting position covering one team at a time to worrying about seven, plus a University, was a lot to grasp.

At first, It was setting up alerts on my phone reminding me of each game scheduled to tip off that night. As time went along, it settled into a routine.

Boy am I glad.

From covering Warrensburg girls basketball for my first-ever game in town to watching Leeton baseball compete in its first state semifinal appearance since 1990 to cap things off, the last few months have been full of fun.

Now the real challenge has arrived — summer time.

Looking back at past summer editions, previous Star-Journal sports editors relied heavily on Warrensburg’s American Legion baseball program.

Due to there being no local Legion team this year, that isn’t an option. I know there’s plenty of stories out there waiting for me, though.

I’m looking for different aspects of local Warrensburg and Johnson County sports to continue filling the sports section with as much local content as possible until Fall sports pick up in Auust.

I encourage you to send story ideas, as well as photos of local youth sport competitions.

I’m still learning the ins and outs of the area, so I’m sure there are plenty of features over high school and collegiate athletes from the area  that I may be missing out on.

High school coaches, college coaches, student athletes and parents, feel free to reach out and let me know about summer activities your team may be participating in.

Youth sports coaches and parents, feel free to submit photos connected to your team’s accomplishments.

Did you or someone you know make a big catch on Lions Lake or other fishing locations in the area? Feel free to send it in.

As always, the best way to contact me is through email, joea@warrensburgstarjournal.com.

My hope is to continue filling the Star-Journal with nothing but local content over the summer months, just like I’ve consistently done since I first stepped foot into Warrensburg in January.
