Posted

WARRENSBURG — The American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513 in Warrensburg will host several events during Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 27 to Tuesday, May 31.

The two veterans organizations will oversee the placement of flags on the graves of approximately 1,100 veterans at eight cemeteries in the Warrensburg area. Sunset Hill Cemetery is the largest of the eight and will have flag placement starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday.  Service members and family from Whiteman Air Force Base along with cadets from the TRIAD AFJROTC from Knob Noster High School will assist in placing the flags.

On Monday, May 30, there will be short ceremonies at 9:25 a.m. at the Sunset Hill and Memorial Gardens cemeteries.

The main ceremony at the Johnson County Courthouse will start at 10 a.m. An active duty military couple from Whiteman Air Force Base, SMSgt. Sedelia Cordero of the 509th Comptrollers Squadron and MSgt. Jason Cordero of the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron, will be the guest speakers. Cadet Col. Madeline Stouder, the newly installed cadet commander from the TRIAD AFJROTC, will be the emcee. In the event of inclement weather, the cemetery ceremonies may be canceled and the 10 a.m. ceremony will be moved to American Legion Post 131.

On Tuesday, May 31, the flags at Sunset Hill will be picked up starting at 5 p.m.
