Work to begin on 50 Highway bridge over Blackwater River

Posted

A new work zone is coming to U.S. 50 Highway in Johnson County, with work expected to begin next week weather permitting.

The Missouri Department of Transportation intends to conduct lane closures along 50 Highway to the west of the 58 Highway intersection in  Centerview.

Beginning Monday April 13, lane closures are scheduled on the eastbound and westbound lanes to make way for bridge rehabilitation of the eastbound bridge over Blackwater River and the replacement of the eastbound bridge over Butcher Branch.

Eastbound traffic will use a crossover into westbound lanes. The closure is expected to last until at least October 2026.

The work zone comes as work on j-turns continues to the east of the 50/58 Highway intersection. Work that began midway through 2025 was initially slated to conclude in December. Instead, MoDot paused construction for the winter months before resuming work in March.

MoDot currently projects that project to be completed in June 2026.

Also forecasted for a June completion is a rehabilitation project on the US-50 westbound bridge over Clear Creek, just west of Knob Noster. The project began on March 30.
