Whiteman Air Force Base B-2s used to strike Iran's ballistic facilities

B-2 Spirit stealth bombers based at Whiteman Air Force Base were used by the U.S. military on Saturday, Feb. 28, as part of the ongoing Operation Epic Fury.

The U.S. Central Command announced Sunday, March 1, that B-2 Spirit stealth bombers armed with 2,000-pound bombs struck Iran’s “hardened” ballistic missile facilities.

“No nation should ever doubt America's resolve,” the U.S. Central Command said in its statement.

The U.S. and Israel began striking targets in Iran that “pose an immediate threat” at approximately 12:15 a.m. central Saturday.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump stated the U.S. has struck hundreds of sites in Iran, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities and Iranian Air Defense systems.

The attacks killed Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and key Iranian military leaders.

A social media post from the Central Command indicates the B-2 is one of more than 20 assets used as part of the  operation.

“Combat operations continue at this time full force,” Trump said. “They will continue until all of our objectives are achieved. We have very strong objectives. They could have done something two weeks ago, but they just couldn’t get there.”

The death of three United States military members was also announced Sunday.

Several others sustained minor injuries and concussions, Central Command announced.

“As one nation, we grieve for the true American Patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, even as we continue the righteous mission, for at least they gave their lives," Trump said. "We pray for the full recovery of the wounded and send our immense love and gratitude to the families of the fallen. Sadly, there will likely be more …. We will do everything possible that it won't be the case.”

This is the second time B-2s have been used in Iran.

In June 2025, the aircraft was used as part of Operation Midnight Hammer, targeting key Iranian nuclear facilities.

Whiteman Air Force Base is the only operation base for the B-2 in the United States.
