During its Aug. 18 meeting, the Warrensburg Parks and Recreation Board received updates and took action on several park, facility and technology projects.
Staff provided an update on Cave Hollow Dog Park and discussed an estimate to add soil to areas of the existing park and plant grass seed over the newly added soil. The Board and staff also discussed the possibility of developing a new dog park within an existing City park.
Staff updated the Board on sections of trail at Lions Lake Park that have washed out during periods of heavy rainfall. Potential repairs and improvements to the affected areas were discussed.
The Board also received information about ongoing HVAC repairs at the Warrensburg Community Center, Indoor Aquatic Center and Nassif Aquatic Center. Several pieces of aging equipment have recently broken down and required repairs.
In addition, the department plans to hire a consulting firm to evaluate the filtration equipment and existing systems at the indoor and outdoor pools. The evaluation will help staff determine the condition of the systems and identify potential repair and replacement needs.
“We have several aging systems that are requiring more frequent repairs,” Parks and Recreation Director Chris Deal said. “The upcoming evaluation will give us a better understanding of the condition of this equipment and help us develop a plan for addressing our most important maintenance and replacement needs.”
Staff discussed the implementation of CivicRec, the department’s new recreation management software, which is scheduled to go online Sept. 1. All customers with existing memberships will be transferred into the new system. CivicRec will provide an improved user experience for registering for programs, purchasing memberships and accessing other Parks and Recreation services.
Staff also announced that Nassif Aquatic Center will operate on Saturdays and Sundays only through Labor Day because seasonal staff members are returning to school. The pool will be open on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, which will be the final day of the 2026 season.
The Board also voted to accept the donation of a parcel of land located across Patterson Road from the south side of Shepard Park. Subject to approval by the Warrensburg City Council and completion of the necessary transfer process, the donated property will become part of the City’s park system.
