Snow expected to accumulate Monday in Warrensburg

The first significant winter weather of the season is expected to cross through the region on Monday, Dec. 1.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Johnson County, running from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

The advisory also covers Jackson, Cass, Lafayette, Pettis and Saline counties. The advisory primarily covers counties to the north of I-70. As of 2 a.m. Monday, an advisory had not been issued for Henry County.

Between 1 and 3 inches of snow is forecasted to fall.

The temperature is expected to reach near 28 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low of 17 degrees Fahrenheit.

The National Weather Services advises travelers to plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening commute.

The Missouri Department of Transportation encourages drivers to avoid travel during the precipitation.

According to an alert sent out at around 10:30 a.m. by the Warrensburg R-VI School District, schools across town are closing early due to weather conditions.

Warrensburg Middle School, Warrensburg High School, Warrensburg Area Career Center and Gateway Educational Center will close at noon. Martin Warren Elementary and Sterling Elementary will close at 1:30 p.m., while Maple Grove Elementary and Ridge View Elementary will close at 1:40 p.m.

No afternoon classes, evening activities or extracurriculars will be held today.
