Shooting suspect shot, killed by law enforcement in Johnson County

Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in western Johnson County early Friday, May 1. 

According to a statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old male suspected in an earlier shooting was shot by a member of the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office at 3:54 a.m. near U.S. Highway 50 and NW 1601 Road. 

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded to the initial shooting at approximately 2 a.m. near U.S. Highway 50 and Missouri Highway 131.

JCSO deputies located an injured 17-year-old girl who had been shot inside a car. The suspect fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived. 

At 3:53 a.m., deputies from Johnson and Lafayette Counties, along with an officer from the Odessa Police Department, located two males walking near U.S. Highway 50 and NW 1601 Road. 

One of the males matched the description of the suspect involved in the earlier shooting. A foot pursuit began, leading into the officer-involved shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The shooting is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control.
