Severe weather probable for Friday afternoon

Severe weather is expected to cross through the region in the late afternoon to early evening on Friday, April 17, the forecast indicates. 

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has categorized the region under a moderate risk of severe weather. Moderate is the second-highest risk level. 

Just before 1:45 p.m., a tornado watch was issued for the area, including Johnson County, until 9 p.m.

There is also a concern for hail and damaging wind.

Johnson County is currently under a previously issued flood watch.

Area school districts, including Crest Ridge, Holden, Chilhowee and Kingsville are releasing early due to the probable storms. 

Warrensburg already had an early out on Friday. 

Leeton issued a social media post stating it will release as normal, but the Early Childhood Center will close at 4 p.m. and Boys & Girls Club will close at 5 p.m. 

All sports and activities at schools across the region have been cancelled or postponed on Friday. 

The Holden Classic baseball tournament  will now conclude on Saturday, with Holden playing for third at 11:30 a.m. Friday and Knob Noster playing for the championship at 2:30 p.m.
