Two family dogs died in a structure fire on Saturday, Sept. 6, in rural Warrensburg.
According to a social media post from the Johnson County Fire Protection District, the department was dispatched to a fully engulfed house in the 300 block of SW 101 Road at 3:58 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved fire. All human occupants escaped safely, and were assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire was determined to be caused by discarded cigarettes on an outdoor porch.
JCFPD received assistance from the Warrensburg Fire Department, Johnson County Volunteer Fire Auxiliary and the Johnson County Ambulance District.
