Authorities searching for woman last seen in Leeton

Posted

Authorities are searching for a woman who was last seen in Leeton late last month.

According to a Missing in America Network flyer shared on social media by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Janice Cook, 43, left a residence where she had been staying in Leeton with her dog on March 29.

The homeowner believed Cook had gone to assist a friend, but never came back and left all of her belongings. The dog was located later in the day March 28.

Cook is described as having dark blonde hair and blue eyes.

Cook also goes by the nicknames of JJ or Jay.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is listed as the investigating agency on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Missing Person database.

A post from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office indicates it is also assisting alongside the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office.

“Those who know Janice have advised that her disappearance is completely out of character, and her family and friends remain deeply concerned for her safety,” Henry County’s post states. “If you have seen Janice or have any information regarding where she may be, we ask that you please come forward. No piece of information is too small and may be critical in helping bring answers to those who care deeply for her.”

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to contact Johnson County Central Dispatch at 660-747-5511.
