Two candidates competing for Southeast Sewer District Supervisor seat

Posted

Two candidates are vying for one open seat as the Southeast Sewer District Supervisor in the 2026 Municipal Election on April 7.

Those voted into each position will serve a five-year term. Candidates include Earnest Macios and Robert Mcclendon.

Each candidate was asked to fill out a questionnaire. Answers were limited to 150 words and are listed in alphabetical order by last name. The candidates' responses have only been edited for grammar, clarity and punctuation.

Why are you running for office?

Macios: I have lived in the Southeast Sewer District for over 30 years. I'm concerned about the sewer system. There have been upgrades, and many more upgrades are being programmed.  A good sewer system is essential for families to enjoy their homes.

Mcclendon: To serve the residents of the sewer district. We pay a lot of money on our sewer bill each month and that money needs to be spent wisely.

What are your qualifications?

Macios: I graduated from the University of Missouri, Rolla, with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Since 1982, I have worked for the Civil Engineering Squadron on Whiteman AFB. During that time, I was involved in programming and managing contracts for water and sewer systems. I also managed construction of 350 new homes that included all the utilities.

Mcclendon: I have 32 years as a road construction supervisor and estimator with degrees in construction management and history.

What would be your top priorities in office?

Macios: SESD is scheduled to award a contract to upgrade the sewer system. My priority is to ensure the contract is awarded and work completed that will have the least amount of inconvenience to the homeowners and completed properly in accordance with the contract.

Mcclendon: To get the costs that residents pay under control.

What goals do you have for office if you are elected?

Macios: To ensure families are kept aware of the work being accomplished to minimize the inconvenience to them. The repaired sewer work should ensure years of use with no issues.

Mcclendon: To ensure the money charged for sewer services is spent wisely as we work towards updating the infrastructure.

Why should people vote for you?

Macios: In addition to my work on utility systems, I was highly involved with projects to upgrade houses and utilities within the housing area on Whiteman AFB. I'm very familiar with how construction contracts affect the homeowners/occupants.

Mcclendon: I have an extensive background in construction and estimating, which would be beneficial in this position.
